Firebase pricing, price hikes and cheaper alternatives

Firebase (firebase.google.com) is a database platform. Pay-as-you-go on the Blaze plan: per 100K Cloud Firestore reads, writes and deletes, per GiB-month stored, per GiB of backup storage and per GiB of network egress, after daily and monthly free quotas.. Free plan: Spark plan: 1 GiB stored, 50K reads, 20K writes and 20K deletes a day, 10 GiB egress a month; Blaze keeps the same quotas free..

What Firebase costs

  • 10 GB app: $6.36/mo (10 GB = 9.31 GiB (decimal GB converted to GiB). Reads: 10M minus free 50K/day x 30.42 days (730 h) = 1.52M free, so 8.48M x $0.03 per 100K = $2.54. Writes: 2M minus 20K/day x 30.42 = 0.61M free, so 1.39M x $0.09 per 100K = $1.25. No deletes or TTL deletes in the scenario. Storage: 9.31 minus 1 GiB free = 8.31 GiB x $0.15 per GiB-month = $1.25. Egress: 20 GB = 18.63 GiB minus 10 GiB free = 8.63 GiB x $0.12 = $1.04. Backups: cheapest option, scheduled backup $0.03 per GiB-month on 9.31 GiB = $0.28 (PITR would be $1.40). Total $6.36 (unrounded $6.358). Spark cannot cover it (1 GiB storage cap).)
  • Side project: free (Spark daily quotas cover the monthly volume: 1M reads (32.9K/day vs 50K), 100K writes (3.3K/day vs 20K), 0.23 GiB stored (1 GiB), 0.93 GiB egress (10 GiB). Backups not required. Blaze keeps the same free quotas, so $0 on either plan.)
  • 100 GB app: $84.76/mo (100 GB = 93.13 GiB. Reads: 100M minus 1.52M free = 98.48M x $0.03 per 100K = $29.54. Writes: 20M minus 0.61M free = 19.39M x $0.09 per 100K = $17.45. Deletes 0. Storage: 93.13 minus 1 GiB free = 92.13 GiB x $0.15 = $13.82. Egress: 200 GB = 186.26 GiB minus 10 GiB free = 176.26 GiB x $0.12 = $21.15. Backups: 93.13 GiB x $0.03 = $2.79. Total $84.76 (components rounded to cents). Three developers add no seat fee in the Firestore price list.)

Plan compared: Blaze pay-as-you-go, Cloud Firestore Standard edition, Iowa (us-central1), default on-demand prices, after free quotas. Every price is the monthly cost, at list prices on monthly billing, of running the same app database in a US region: a 10 GB production app (the headline), a 250 MB side project and a 100 GB growing app, each with a fixed number of reads, writes and developers, on the cheapest self-serve plan that fully covers it. Free plans count when they cover the whole job and allow production use; trials and sign-up credits do not.

Pricing page: firebase.google.com/pricing. Prices last checked Oct 16, 2026. Prices come from the official Cloud Firestore Standard edition table for Iowa (us-central1), default on-demand column, read from cloud.google.com/firestore/pricing; free quotas and Blaze terms come from firebase.google.com/pricing, and Enterprise edition is not priced. No Firebase or Firestore price change was found: the PricingSaaS google and google.firebase lists show none, and the price-increase web search could not run because the turn's search budget was used up.
