SiteGround pricing, price hikes and cheaper alternatives

SiteGround (siteground.com) is a web host. Three web hosting plans (StartUp, GrowBig, GoGeek) are sold on 12-month prepaid terms, with a first-term price well below the regular renewal rate.. No free plan.

What SiteGround costs

  • 1 site: $17.99/mo (StartUp at $17.99/mo regular renewal. Month-to-month billing is not shown, so the 12-month renewal rate is used; the $2.99/mo first-term price is not the regular rate. Meets the bar with 1 website, 10 GB storage, free SSL and around 10,000 visits (FAQ). Plugin and theme installs are not stated on the page (WP-CLI and SSH are listed on every plan).)
  • 10 sites: $29.99/mo (GrowBig at $29.99/mo regular renewal. Unlimited websites, 50 GB storage and approx. 100,000 visits clear the 10-site bar (50,000 visits, 20 GB). StartUp allows only 1 website.)
  • Busy store: $29.99/mo (GrowBig at $29.99/mo regular renewal. Approx. 100,000 visits (read as meeting the 100,000 bar) and 50 GB clear the store bar. The WooCommerce hosting page lists the same three plans at the same prices with no visit figures, so no cheaper WooCommerce plan exists. If approximately 100,000 is read as short of the bar, store becomes GoGeek at $44.99/mo.)

Plan compared: StartUp at its $17.99/mo regular renewal rate on a 12-month term. Prices are USD per month at the regular rate a plan renews at, on month-to-month billing where offered (otherwise the shortest term sold, divided by its months), for WordPress sites on your own domain. Introductory promos, setup fees, domains and taxes are not included.
